After a weekend full of magic with the final home match of the 2012 inaugural season on July 15 and coming away with a 4-0 over Victoria Highlanders, the Hammers had a bit of a letdown in this past weekend's Kennedy Cup.
On Saturday BUFC opened up the Kennedy Cup agains defending Cup champions IPS Marathon Taverna. The Hammers had the majority of the chances in the match, but the two mistakes they made turned into the two goals that the Oregon side needed to claim victory.
After suffering the 2-0 loss to IPS Marathon, the Hammers went int Sunday's consolation match with San Carlos at Whatcom CC without the majority of their starters. Coach Lance Calloway said, "We used this match as an opportunity to get a look at some of the players that have trained with the team all year, but have not had a lot of opportunities to play. It also gave us a chance to rest many of our starters as we get ready for the big Challenge Cup next weekend in Chilliwack." San Carlos came out and claimed Sunday's match with a 3-2 victory over United.
IPS Marathon Taverna from Oregon, repeated as Kennedy Cup champions with a 1-0 victory over Okanagan Challenge on Sunday at Civic Stadium.
Next up, the Hammers regroup and head to Chilliwack, BC for the league playoffs aka Challenge Cup. Match schedules will be posted at the PCSL website soon. BUFC is expected to play their dreaded rivals, Poco City FC in the first round semi-final on Saturday with the finals being played on Sunday.
