The opening game of the season was a tough one for Bellingham United. Vancouver Victory started the scoring and never looked back. Vancouver handed the Hammers a season opening defeat 5-0.
Vancouver took the lead on a nice chip shot after getting behind the defense. The next two goals were also credited to Vancouver with a shot from distance with pace and a brilliantly place free kick to go into the half with a 3-0 lead. Bellingham United did create some nice chances but couldn’t get on the end of the service to find the back of the net.
The second half started with a great chance by Richard Henderson that was hit as he struck the ball and his shot found the keeper Lance Calloway, Bellingham United Coach, changed things up to get back in the match and adjust for the loss to Brady Ulen due to injury. The game opened up and found United finding chances that where just missed. A counter attack lead to a PK call that Bellingham United questioned. Vancouver finished it and found one more on a nice shot from distant to the near post.
Bellingham United had several very close calls late in the match and will use those to build on. A crowd of 350 stayed to the end to support their local side. Bellingham United and the fans will be looking for better results next week in a friendly against the Sounders U23 team and Oly Town Artesians, a new club to the EPLWA league.
