Bellingham United had a very busy weekend with two matches with the Hammers heading east of the mountains to Yakima for a match against Yakima United and then returned to Civic Stadium as United hosted the OlyTown Artesians.
SATURDAY: Bellingham United FC 4 – 2 Yakima United.
The first half of scoring began with a 30 yard rocket from René Caro assisted by Christian Caro the brother connection. René is on a 3 game scoring streak. The second goal came from Kurtis Pederson who was waiting patiently inside the box where he capitalized with composure after a smooth back heel from Eleazar Galvan. The play began with a fine display of foot skills from R.G. Henderson who cruised down the left flank to clip a ball in back post to Eleazar then Kurtis for the goal. The third and final goal of the half started with Eleazar ripping apart the right flank allowing giving himself space to placer the ball onto Kurtis’ foot for his second of the game.
The entire game was chippy and scrappy, however the second half was a much more of a battle amongst both sides. The hammers were able to keep their cool and score once more. The fourth goal came from a slotted shot from Uriel Herrera. The play started with a ball over the top to find left winger, Ivan Colin, who forced a mistake from Yakima’s center back. He found himself with the ball at his feet and carried it to the touch line assisting Uriel Herrera for the final Bellingham United FC goal.
It was evident to everyone in attendance who the “hammer” of the Match was, Bryce Logan (goalkeeper). He made massive saves to keep BUFC competitive and ultimately victorious. The black and white earned their 3 points on the road.
SUNDAY: Bellingham United FC suffers a loss at home. Bellingham United 0-1 OlyTown Artesians
United were unable to find the net and paid the price. In the second half of the game BUFC controlled possession and created numerous goal scoring opportunities, however they were unlucky with their attempts and came up short in the end. Head coach Lance Calloway said, “it was a disappointing result today as we did play overall well. The only time OlyTown got forward in the match they were able to capitalize on a mistake giving them the lead. We created a lot of chances but we were either off on our final touch or they made some great defensive saves. The OlyTown keeper made a couple key saves especially on the diving header by Richard Henderson late in the match. The Artesians had a game plan of absorbing our attack and unfortunately for us it worked as we could not break it down. Need to give them credit for executing a game plan that worked for them.”
Back to the drawing board for Bellingham as they prepare to take on the Seattle Stars next Sunday on the road at Kent Meridian’s French Field in Kent. The match will kick off at 6 pm. United in Soccer | United in Community.
