The Evergreen Premier League of WA first place Seattle Stars rolled into Civic Stadium for a match up of the top two squads in the league as they faced Bellingham United. It was an epic battle as after the final whistle blew the result was the same result when these two squads took to the pitch in late May, a 1-1 draw.
The Stars drew first blood as they scored in the 11th minute as Miles Sanchez ripped a blistering shot under pressure into the near post upper V. Bellingham United took over for the remainder of the match as they maintained a substantial amount of the possession and pressured the Seattle goal. The Stars keeper, Saif Kerawala, kept the visitors in the game as he made several key saves. In the 38th minute Bellingham equalized after defender Brady Ulen headed in his second header in a flurry around a United corner kick to notch the goal for the Hammers.
The second half saw United maintain a lot of the pressure on the Stars however they Hammers were just off on the final touch in the Stars penalty box to come up empty. The Stars had one excellent chance half way through the half to be denied by United keeper Bryce Logan as he parried away a great shot by the Stars.
“I was very pleased with our guys play today, we possess the ball we moved it we created chances. I give credit to the Stars as they scored a cracker of a goal. Our overall play was very good and we created a lot of chances however it just has to be better with our touch in the final third. We are creating the chance but not finishing them. It was an exciting match to watch and Seattle’s a good opponent. To be honest it’s disappointing we didn’t take the three point today. I think we are going to have a very fun end of the season race to who captures the championship.” commented Head Coach Lance Calloway.
